Bio:

I am a professional wedding and portrait photographer from Phoenix, Arizona. I hold a Masters of Fine Arts in the Photographic Studies and a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Photography from Arizona State University. I teach photography at the college level and to professionals everywhere. My portfolio can be seen at www.plattphotography.com.

I was raised in a small town in northern Arizona where I took my first photographs at the age of seventeen. I fell in love with photography immediately and pursued the art from that day on. I have never done anything else. It’s like I have never had a real job. I am blessed to labor at something I love. I have so much passion and excitement for the subject that it can’t help but spills out into my photography. This passion is why I lecture and teach on the subject of photography at conferences and in small workshops and seminars. My audiences are made up of students, professionals and serious amateurs all over the world. My most recent lecture was given in Hong Kong at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Special Guest: Mike Larson
Website: www.mikelarson.com

Summary: Mike Larson: Trust Marketing, Character Marketing & Excellence Marketing

Excelling in client relationships…Trust…100% referral biz… UN-commoditizing yourself…Mastering your art…Excellent times.

Details: We’ll do a LIVE night (flash) shoot of a couple going over practical examples of how to relate to clients and get amazing images during a casual portrait shoot OR a wedding.

Mike will share how he relates to clients to build trust, and confidence with your clients and yourself to separate YOU from other photographers. It’s important to know where you stand in comparison to the rest of the industry. Are you a commodity or a highly desired artist? How do you become that unique artist you want to be?

Mike’s Bio: Developing his style from an editorial/catalogue photographer, and shooting surfing & lifestyle, Mike had the opportunity to work with multi million dollar ad campaigns which gave him a perspective on quality, mastering his craft, and real world marketing. Big clients such as Roxy, Bodyglove and Swell.com like these, don’t accept anything less than perfect. Shooting slides for immediate editorial demanded shooting right the 1st time. Traveling the Globe and getting things done required excellent management, and closing leads and maintaining excited clients became his number one job. in 2004 Mike jumped back into weddings with both feet and within 2 years had shot 80 weddings. His mindset to fast track and develop a big client base in 2 years paid off.

Now in the last 2 years Mike’s business has grown and so has his outlook on business & life. He has a team of 6 photographers who photograph 80+ weddings per year. Their volume has given them the freedom to grow and pursue exciting opportunities. His business has allowed him to travel the world. Using his business growth and buzz he built a brand new studio on the coast of California.
He maintains an amazingly blessed marriage with his sweet wife Rachel. Striving to always be learning, reading, sharing & encouraging others. He believes that one’s business should be a vehicle for a more abundant life. Have your business support your ideal lifestyle. Recently he has photographed weddings in Singapore, Brazil, Italy, Ireland, Hawaii & the West Indies as well as having a recent wedding published in InStyle Weddings and another upcoming feature on Style me Pretty.

“Business success & profits should be just scalable as your freedom in life”

Special Guest: Allana Taranto
Website: http://www.arsmagnastudio.com/
Summary: Allana will introduce her use of Visual Thinking Strategies and do a quick overview of the Elements and Principles of Art – specific photographic concerns, using both images from the traditional ‘canon’ of photography as well as images from our wedding/portrait industry.  She will talk about taking this method of seeing and apply it into the editing of our own work, specifically looking at our web presence. “Taking a selection of images, and bio pictures, and question what they say about our individual brands. Is it a cohesive story that we are presenting?”  If we have time – Allana will faciliate a social review of thoughts and observations as attendees look at their images/web presence – and (ideally) talk about how they are seeing their own work differently.  Please leave a comment on this post with your website if you’d like to have your portfolio reviewed as part of the talk!
